Six Czech Lion awards were presented to Marek Najbrt's Nazi occupation drama Protektor, supported by the MEDIA Development programme in 2005 (slate funding support of EUR 80,000 to the production company Negativ; call No. 66/2004). The film picked up prizes in the main categories: best film, director, script and best leading actress (Jana Plodková); the two remaining awards were for the best editing and music. The second most successful film of the year was Tomáš Mašín's 3 Seasons in Hell, supported in 2004 also by the MEDIA Development programme (EUR 20,000, call No. 86/2003). The film obtained awards for the best leading actor (Shooting Star 2010 Kryštof Hádek), cinematography and sound. Two Czech Lion awards were handed out to Kawasaki's Rose by Jan Hřebejk for the best supporting actor and actress (Ladislav Chudík and Daniela Kolářová).

Actress Jana Brejchová won the award for an outstanding contribution to Czech film; the Academy's prize for an audiovisual achievement of the year went to The Restored Films of Jan Špáta.
