2005 I Šchkola – School Without Borders I documentary

Project

A full-length documentary film about the daily life of Czech, German and Polish children and teenagers (and their families) in “Šchkola” – elementary and secondary schools, established since 1995 in the very Eastern corner of the German federal land of Saxony neighbouring with the Czech Republic and Poland. Children from the three different European states meet in this congenial, liberal environment and spend their years of compulsory education here. The film about the three European nations that have been neighbours for hundreds of years, the three different languages and the three different cultures will be shot by professional filmmakers and teenagers from the “Šchkola”…

Company

Sunfilm was established in 1998 and its activities have focused on the distribution of fiction and documentary films. In the Czech and Slovak Republics, the company has distributed more than thirty films (including Run Lola Run, Cider House Rules, Antonia, Karakter, Central Station, Little Voice and The Alvin Straight Story among others). In 2001, Sunfilm-spiral productions s.r.o. was established. This company focuses on the production of documentary films and focuses on ethnic minorities, education and social and political issues. The company produced for example: „2002 floods in the Prague ZOO” (for NHK), documentaries from the cycle „Lost Neighbours or Search for traces of Jewish fellow citizens through the teenage camera eye – Kids from Hartmanice” (coproduction with Dutch TV company NIKmedia–Joodse Omroep) and “Expedition Jews”. Currently, Sunfilm-spiral productions s.r.o. is working on the audiovisual projects “Šchkola” and “Teenagers and Jews”; other projects are in development. The company is a member of EDN and APA (Audiovisual Producers’ Association).
